Spotlight On…Reading Hospital

With the onset of the new year, Parking Solutions secured the contract to begin valet parking services at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center located in Reading, PA. PSI took over mid-night on February 2nd to overnight success, literally! PSI currently assists upwards of 400 patients and guests per day.Site Supervisor David O’Mara and his team are truly going the extra mile and living the PSI values. The team took the initiative to leave mints in EVERY valet parked vehicle and also offers window washing services.

Spotlight On… Cleveland Hopkins Airport

Parking Solutions implemented Cleveland Hopkins International Airport’s (CLE) very first Curbside Valet service on October 15th, 2008 to overnight success! Parking Solutions was awarded the contract in June after a competitive bidding process. Immediate implementation plans began this summer, led by Assistant Regional Manager, Robert Montgomery. Since the grand opening in October, PSI has been averaging 60 vehicles per day, tremendously exceeding expectations.

Airport Director Ricky Smith commented, “We are excited about adding this new customer convenience for our traveling public. The partnership we have created with PSI to establish this service is an added benefit to the airport, but more importantly, it’s an added win to enhancing the traveler’s overall experience at CLE.”

Parking Solutions Launches Drivers’ Safety Courses

As a part of the company’s ongoing efforts to educate and train employees on the importance of accurate and safe driving skills, this month PSI instituted its first ever Drivers’ Safety Courses. Created and led by Risk & Safety Manager, Rob Jones, the program covers all of the requirements for a driver’s license in addition to the advanced driving skills PSI requires all of valet attendants. Subject matter includes parallel parking in tight spaces, depth perception skills, evasive action drills and overall defensive driving; it is our intention that all PSI valet attendants will complete the safety course by year end.



Upon completion of the course, attendants take a driving test and are assigned a pass or fail assessment. Those who fail will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with their manager and will not be scheduled on the curb until they are able to pass the course with flying colors.

Going Green @ South Campus Gateway

South Campus Gateway is a leader in applying Green practices in a business setting. Gateway has continued this momentum with the addition of 22 Green Spots to the South Campus Gateway Parking Garage. The total 58 Green Spots provide short-term, premium parking spaces for low-emission vehicles.

“The original 36 Green Spots were full every morning by 10 a.m.,” says Charlie Tischler, Director of Parking Services. “The expansion of two additional rows in the garage rewards even more fuel-efficient drivers while reducing our carbon footprint.”



Denoted by large banners, green walls, and the ‘Green Spot’ logo, these premium spots are closest to the shops, eateries, and attractions in the Gateway. All visitors driving qualified vehicles are eligible for these spaces.

The Green Spot Initiative is another way South Campus Gateway is working to promote environmental awareness, recycling, and energy efficiency. The program is designed to inform and educate Gateway guests, tenants, office workers, residents, and patrons of the leadership role South Campus Gateway has taken on by applying Green initiatives in a business environment. Additionally, South Campus Gateway has found success with their recycling program, 19 tons of waste was recycled last month. Green Spot parking is not permitted overnight.

Tire Pressure Importance

The EPA estimates that we can improve our gas mileage by up to 3.3 percent by keeping our car’s tires inflated to the proper pressure. Under-inflated tires can lower gas mileage by 0.3 percent for every 1-psi drop in pressure of all four tires.   At today’s gas prices, this is the equivalent of saving $.10 on every gallon of gasoline purchased!

Improperly inflated tires will also wear out quickly and may cause a accident. Statistics and research on transportation indicate that due to tire under-inflation, at least 260,000 accidents occur per year, and at least half a million gallons of fuel are wasted each year. Overinflated tires are also risky as heat causes air to expand, increasing the likelihood of a blowout. Overinflated tires will increase wear in the center of your tire tread, reducing tire life. Too much air pressure can also decrease ride quality by making bumps and road imperfections more apparent.



Aaron Shocket named Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2011 South Central Ohio & Kentucky Award Finalist
